Family and Career
Professional challenges often compete with private family interests. Our institute and the Max Planck Society therefore offer extensive support to ensure that the two can be successfully combined. We take account of the needs of our employees in our working culture.
Scientists at all levels, whether men or women, can receive financial and logistical support from the institute and from the Max Planck Society. In 2017, the Max Planck Society launched a new initiative for financial support of doctoral students and postdocs in connection with childcare. Details can be found here: Flyer_EN
Institute employees who are expecting children can also apply for child allowances or use facilities offered by pme Familienservice.
The Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard Foundation additionally offers stipends for young female scientists who wish to pursue careers without major constraints on their family life. Information on these can be found on the Careers page of the Max Planck Society.
