TEACHING: As full Professor in Physics at the University of Maine I taught all undergraduate courses of the Physics curriculum and special courses for Graduate Students. As Professor for Physical Chemistry at the University of Heidelberg I taught all undergraduate and graduate courses in Physical Chemistry.

 

FIELDS OF INTEREST: Surface chemistry and interface physics, biointerface science, biocompatible implant coatings, non fouling surfaces, adhesion science, self assembly of organic mono- and multilayers, non-linear optical laser spectroscopy on surfaces, x-ray absorption and x-ray emission spectroscopy, x-ray microscopy, in-line holography, biochemical sensors, hemocopatibility of artificial materials, marine biofouling

 

FOUNDER OF THREE COMPANIES: SPECS, Surtech (bought by IBM), CeloNova (former Polyzenix). International and national patents: 124

 

STUDENTS AND POSTDOCS: During my academic career in Germany and the US from 1997 until now I supervised more than 180 Master and PhD students and worked with more than 50 post-doctorial fellows.

 

PUBLICATIONS: Over 420 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, 4 books, many non-peer reviewed articles in professional journals.
